    Iran tried to attack the US Consulate in Erbil, Iraq, but failed.

      I read that they were aiming for a Mossad base? I’m not sure which scenario is accurate, they both sound plausible. Certainly not a helpful move when it comes to deescalation and calming things down.

    They probably wanted to display their military capabilities, maybe motivated by domestic politics, e.g., to distract people’s attention from their constantly growing problems.
