I just saw on the Russian bbc and other russian news that couple of days ago many planes belonging to the government flew out of Moscow to various cities and places in Siberia carrying higher ranking officials. Looks like Putin moved them out of Moscow for their safety…
Makes you wonder why the urgency:(-
Yeah, that sounds worrying. I wouldn’t be surprised if Putin planned a false-flag attack on his own city, if he thought doing it could trick other Russians into thinking Ukraine was attacking them. Just speculation on my part, so I hope I’m just being paranoid.

What is your understanding of the outcome? What did your media tell you?
Here in Aussie, we heard nothing.
However in China, they received this very long report of Xi’s take on matters of importance, particularly the Russian Ukraine hostilities and on Taiwan’s independence.

This is what concerns me. That same story ran here on our ABC on our Sat. It was a statement made by Biden prior to the meeting, and repeated on the Guardian and the US’ PBS.
It was published as the meeting was actually going on so it was old news.
So basically, we have been given nothing from the media as to what was actually said by either leader.
Yet China has published pages and pages of what they claim was said. What was said that has not been given to the world media from the free world’s perspective?-
This part of the Chinese story is particularly interesting:
“(President Biden) The US does not support “Taiwan independence”; and it has no intention to seek a conflict with China.’
I thought the US WERE pushing for an independent Taiwan, free from mainland China.
As a media man in the US or other free nations, I would surely have jumped all over this.
So far ….. zilch.-
Yes, that part jumped out at me too…does this mean the US are selling out Taiwan for China’s backing NATO in this conflict? I hope not! I’ve been to Taiwan and China and the many years of independence Taiwan has had from China has made it a very different country, with different thinking people, much as Hong Kong has been. If so, the US is just going to be swapping one humanitarian crisis for another.

I think we keep getting confusing message concerning China/Taiwan. The land mass of Taiwan is still recognised by the world as China owned.
When China became Communist, those in favour of democracy moved to Taiwan as a group of democratic people onto what was, and is, a Chinese island. That has been the understanding of the Chinese, Taiwanese and the world up till now.
Taiwan now wants to claim the island and this is what China is opposing. The question now is, after so many years of the status quo, as I’ve mentioned, does Taiwan what to claim the land?
Is it just Taiwan that is pushing for ownership of the island, or are there other ‘fish’ stirring this?
Biden’s comment, if it was his and not the Chinese paper’s interpretation, indicates he is willing to have China continue to own the island so long as the people there can self govern as a democracy. China seems to be saying that, as that is the status quo, they will abide by it.

China have always promoted a “one state two systems” policy since 1997. Its all about semantics. What Westerners understand as “one state two systems”, means just that. Two independent groups. What the CCP understand by this is still two systems, but where the second system needs to follow the rules established by the first system, which isn’t two independent groups. This is reality. Its not Westerners judging the CCP. Its actually what the CCP says and what the CCP actually does. Western interpretation doesn’t really come into it. This is the reason why many people and Governments do not trust the CCP, what they say doesn’t match up with what Westerners are expecting or wanting them to say. They have a policy that is consistently inconsistent by Western standards. I suspect that Biden is probably playing the same game, being consistent until China becomes inconsistent when it invades Taiwan at which time the US will also then show its inconsistency.
China will clearly reflect on the US actions in the Ukraine, where the US will not directly engage with the conflict for fear of WW3, and I’m sure that all China is seeing at the moment is a Big Green light to invasion, knowing that the US will not do anything. The other part is economics, so if Russia can retain Ukraine and also have their economy back on track, which isn’t totally unrealistic (although very undesirable), I’m sure this will present China with a double Green for Go, especially with Xi’s birthday coming up (signal point).-
My point was to do with the media. I didn’t want to get into the pros and cons of China.
We get our information, not from the source as we should have concerning this recent important meeting between China and Russia, but from a media that is totally biased in nature.
My point was how China had pages and pages of context from the meeting, from the China perspective, and yet we got NOTHING from our media.
The report that Gloria referred to appearing in NZ was EXACTLY the same report we got at our ABC. It was also the same report I read at PBS, The Chronicle and Reuters. That was on our Saturday here when the meeting was still in progress on Friday US time.
If we are receiving censored media on something as important as this, what else is being denied us?

Its also a terrible flaw in the policy of “Mutually Assured Destruction”, and nuclear deterrence. Billions and billions of dollars spent on Military hardware in the US, primarily designed to re-butt against Russia and China, but the reality is that, as shown by Ukraine, authorisation by the POTUS to use it against either country (although they are poking the South China Seas) is highly unlikely, for fear of invoking WW3 and going down the MAD path. Why have that shiny Pontiac if all it will ever do is sit in the garage, and never, never come out. And nor should it have to. But why buy it in the first place then? A very good reason to funnel all that money back into improving society instead – universal health care, getting people out of poverty, disability care, hunger relief. Perhaps even gun control!

Yes I agree with you, but I’d prefer to keep from the actual political perspective and aim at who is telling us the truth. Who can we trust to tell us the truth? The conservative media totally controlled by Murdoch? Why do we assume we are right and ‘the enemy’ is wrong, even when we are trading with ‘the enemy’, who didn’t invaded anyone after either the Korean or Vietnam wars?

Wow Pete, this is exactly what I’ve been saying. The media is literal complicit these days. I’ve seen multiple instances just as you described. Western media is run by the highest bidder, it’s disgraceful and truly scary. All I can say is to listen to various outlets and let your own rationale, intuition, and a little research guide you. It’s basically all we can do. On the note of the us-China call, our White House press secretary was asked by a reporter why the US readout was much delayed and incredibly short compared to chinas readout, and she replied with they aren’t entitled to make certain information public but did not say that China’s readout was inaccurate. If you look up press briefings on the whitehouse page, it should still be there. It was asked the day of the call if I’m not mistaken. Hope that helps some.
